Keeping Dentures Clean

Categories: Dentures

More than thirty million people wear a full set of dentures, like the All On 4 implant dentures available at Wildflower Dental in Sun City AZ. That number is expected to grow in the years ahead.

Dentures need to be cleaned every day. Most people find that it takes a little longer than brushing and flossing used to take – at first, anyway. In time it becomes second nature.

Important Points

If there is one thing to remember about cleaning dentures, it is to never use ordinary toothpaste on them. Whitening toothpastes, in particular, contain harsh ingredients that can scratch or stain dentures.

Instead look for toothpastes that are made specifically for cleaning dentures. Use it with a soft-bristled toothbrush, making sure to scrub all surfaces. Take extra care to brush each of the teeth.

As you clean them, make sure the water is only lukewarm. Water that is too hot can damage them, twisting them out of shape.

In addition to daily cleaning, removeable dentures should be taken out and rinsed with water after every meal. Always handle them with care! Your entire mouth should be rinsed out, too.

With All On 4 dental implants from Wildflower Dental in Sun City AZ, all of the above is beside the point. Cleaning and maintenance is the same as with natural teeth; you brush and floss them every day, and get cleanings and checkups every six months. We also provide snap-in dentures.
