Dental Implants and Bite Force

Dental implants are titanium posts that replace the root of a lost tooth. One implant can support one artificial tooth, while several implants, like those at Wildflower Dental in Sun City AZ, can support a dental bridge, and even a full dental arch.

Implants are a solid foundation for artificial teeth: so much so, that biting power for most patients is restored anywhere from eighty to one hundred percent. The main reason implant-supported teeth are so strong is that the implant and jaw bone actually grow into one.

Bite Force

People with a full set of healthy teeth have a bite force between two hundred and two hundred fifty pounds per square inch. That’s enough to handle even the toughest foods, like an apple or a steak.

Conventional dentures, by contrast, provide an average of about fifty pounds per square inch of bite force. And  that, to put it another way, is about a quarter of ordinary bite force.

With a bite force of eighty to one hundred percent, dental implants are a huge improvement. Most people find they can enjoy just about anything they would like: those things they have always enjoyed eating.

Since they are part of the bone, implants also prevent the loss of bone mass, which is a common result of a lost tooth.

Implants also restore smiles! At Wildflower Dental in Sun City AZ we offer single tooth implants and implant-supported dentures. We have placed them in people throughout Peoria, Surprise, and Sun City West. These patients love their new teeth, and also our all-inclusive pricing, lifetime warranty, free second opinions, and in-office discount plan. Please give us a call to schedule an appointment today!
